Performance and Other Events

If you are interested in presenting at the Hamilton Arts Collective, please take the time to read the performance request process. It outlines the steps we use to accept and evaluate any submissions or letters of proposal inquiry.

We are currently accepting proposals for:

• THEATRE (theatrical performance/puppetry/performance art/etc.)

• POETRY (Readings/Slams/Competitions/etc.)

• FILM (Educational Screenings/Original Premieres/Shorts/etc.)

• MUSIC (Concerts – All Genres/CD Release Events/etc.)

• CLASSES/WORKSHOPS (Networking/Performance/Dance/Choir/etc.)

STEP 1: YOUR PROPOSAL

WE ARE ONLY TAKING WEEKEND SUBMISSIONS (FRIDAY OR SATURDAY EVENINGS) FOR PERFORMANCES AT THE HAMILTON ARTS COLLECTIVE AT THIS TIME.

E-mail our programming director (hacjbenet@gmail.com) John Bennett about your proposal and be sure to answer the following questions:

1. WHAT, SPECIFICALLY, WILL YOU PRESENT AT THE HAMILTON ARTS COLLECTIVE?

Summarize this by supplying music, pictures, a segment of script, or some other representation of your work.

2. WHAT DATE(S) WILL YOU OCCUPY THE SPACE?

Include any days you wish to rehearse in the space, in addition to the date(s) of performance(s). Also include the length of said performance. We normally hold our events from 8 pm to midnight (with a load-in/prep opening for participants at 7 pm), but we can make exceptions to this on a case-by-case basis. It is expected you are to adhere to your proposed times and that you let us know ANY changes well in advance.

3. WHAT ARE YOUR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS?

This mainly concerns sound and lighting requirements.

We have a basic (8 stage, 3 house oriented) theatrical lighting setup adjustable from our light board booth and colored gels to provide a very basic color palette. Lighting will normally be controlled by our HAC staff, but if you wish to be in control of this aspect of your show, we can make special considerations provided you have a lighting operator on site. Special lighting schemes require preparation time and we request that you be very specific and give us enough time to accommodate your request.

As for sound, the HAC is equipped with a mono PA system with (4) microphone channels and (4) standard microphones. If you do not have your own amp, we can provide an adapter to plug in instruments (keyboards, guitars, etc.) through our sound system. (We have only (4) channels, however, so keep this in mind if you multiple instrumentation and vocals.) Also, we have several power strips and extension cable onstage for your equipment if needed.

The soundboard is run in our booth alongside the lighting, and we will staff a HAC volunteer to control the levels during performance. If you wish to provide a sound operator, we can again make special exceptions upon request.

We also have a 5 disc CD player hooked into our PA primarily used to play house music during shows. Normally we play unassuming instrumental selections, with CDs from past HAC performers rotated in to provide atmosphere in between setups and downtime. If you wish to play music (we can support MP3, I-Pod, etc.) during your show or have specific audio cues for onstage performances, please indicate that in your proposal.

In addition to lights and sound, we also have a large 70’s still projector that can support images about 8 x 11.5, a digital office projector for film productions (with a DVD player), and a fairly reliable Halloween smoke machine. If you wish to incorporate any of these items into your piece, again, list it in your proposal in detail.

4. WHAT ADMISSION PRICE WILL YOU SET FOR YOUR EVENT?

Due to our operating expenses, we require all acts booked at our main stage to set their admission prices at no less than $5 dollars per person. You can price your performances at any dollar amount you wish (our past shows have ranged from $5 - $15), but this is our absolute minimum and this is non-negotiable.

5. PLEASE PROVIDE US WITH A BRIEF RESUME OR EXPLANATION OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN THE PERFORMANCE FIELD OF YOUR PARTICULAR EVENT.

6. IS THERE ANYTHING IN YOUR PRODUCTION THAN MAY BE A PHYSICAL HAZARD TO ATTENDEES?

Smoking on stage, strobe lights, broken glass, flammable material or anything that might potentially harm attendees must be noted before the show. Failure to mention any potential physical hazards before the performance date will result in violation of HAC policy and your performance will be cancelled immediately. This does not mean all shows with possible hazards included will be turned down, but forewarned is forearmed.
The Hamilton Arts Collective provides a safe environment for creative expression and we reserve the right to prepare and protect any attendee from physical harm at our discretion.

7. WHAT IS YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION? (E-mail, Phone #, etc.)

Normally, e-mail is our easiest contact method. If you can provide telephone number(s) as well, that is also acceptable.

8. HAVE YOU READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE RULES AND RESTRICTIONS LISTED IN OUR PERFORMANCE FAQ? (REQUIRED)
